March 16 Update
Hi youth and parents,
As you have seen in the news lately, we are going through some unprecedented times as the Covid-19 virus is affecting nearly every aspect of our society and daily lives. This is a serious and challenging situation and our church staff have been busy discussing how we can continue to gather, minister, and serve – and the reality is there are no easy answers as this is uncharted territory and the situation in the news changes daily. So, with lot of thought, discussion, and prayer, we have made the difficult decision to cancel all in-person church services, classes, and groups – and this includes youth group/Sunday School. We are just as disappointed as you are but we want to do our part to ensure that everyone stays safe and healthy, including the many people in our church family who are at high risk. Now that’s the bad news, but there is good news!!!
Our youth group (and the church as a whole) are exploring ways for us to continue having weekly services, group meetings, and yes…. YOUTH GROUP through online means!! 🙂 We are still in the process of figuring out all the details, but here is what we do know:
- This Sunday (and every Sunday thereafter) we will have an online version of church on our website (www.firstb.net). Pieces are still coming together but we plan to have songs of worship, prayer, the sermon, and more! There will also be weekly kids and youth material to replace Sunday school. Be sure to check back each Sunday for new content
- Our PLAN at this point is to have an online youth group meeting starting next Wednesday March 25 at 7pm (with no youth group in any format this Wednesday to give us some time to figure things out). The current plan is to utilize Zoom (a web-based video conferencing platform) which will allow us to do our lessons, discussions, and some form of an event/activity/game that we can play together. Oh, also… we will have some awesome giveaways that night too!! We are not sure if this will be a full 2 hour event, but we will see how it goes. I will be sending out more info about this when I have it (likely later this week)
- If you have not already, I encourage you to join our Facebook group (First B YETI Youth and First B Yeti Youth Parents) as well follow us on Instagram (FirstBYetiYouth) to stay up to do date on what’s happening and to access some free resources we will be posting (activity ideas if you are stuck at home, etc)
This is a challenging time, but we are also excited about the opportunities we have as a youth group and as a church to stay connected and continue to minister well in the name of Jesus. Things are a bit scary right now, but God is in control and is greater than this – He is our refuge and strength (Ps 46:1). One of my favorite songs is “Oceans” by Hillsong and it is a good reminder for us to keep our eyes on Jesus when the waves and storms of life surround us – God is good and He is with us!
Finally, I just want to mention that if you or are having a difficult time with all of this or need someone to talk to, the youth leaders and I are MORE than happy to connect! We are here, don’t hesitate to reach out!
